On Thursday 29 October 2026, World Stroke Day, Stroke Social met for the first time at Bar Nautique, Liberty Wharf.

Forty-nine people registered: stroke survivors, carers, families, and the nurses, therapists and charity teams who support them, from nine of Jersey's twelve parishes. The Health Minister, Deputy Tom Binet, and Deputy Rose Binet joined us and spent the evening talking with guests.

There was no programme and no speeches to sit through. People simply found each other, and by the end of the evening small groups had formed.

What people told us

"It was really good meeting new people, and to be able to thank some of those who helped me in hospital." – a stroke survivor
"It was lovely to meet others in similar situations and speak to charities that are able to offer support. We both found it very valuable." – a survivor and his partner
"Thank you for tonight. It was inspirational." – a carer

Since the launch, phone numbers have been swapped and walks and coffees arranged. That is exactly what we hoped would happen between gatherings.

Thank you

Thank you to Quaystreet and the Bar Nautique team for hosting us, to CNS Neuro Rehab & Elderly Care for their support, and to the Stroke Association, Headway Jersey and Jersey Stroke Support for joining us.

Next time

Our next gathering is in February 2027. Registration is open now on our Events page, and we will share the date and venue soon. If you have had a stroke, or care for someone who has, you are especially welcome.
