1. Who We Are
Stroke Social is a community group in Jersey that runs free quarterly social gatherings for stroke survivors, carers, families, health professionals and supporters. It is not a medical service.
The person responsible for your information (the “data controller”) is Dr Shyam Kelavkar, Founder of Stroke Social. Stroke Social is run separately from Health and Care Jersey and from any private clinic. Information you give Stroke Social is never added to medical records or used for clinical or commercial purposes.
Questions about this statement or your information: strokesocial.je@gmail.com
We follow the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018.
2. What We Collect
When you register or contact us, we collect:
-
your full name, email address and telephone number
-
your age group and parish
-
how you are connected to stroke (for example survivor, carer, professional, supporter)
-
any mobility, communication or parking needs you choose to tell us about
-
whether you would like updates about future socials
Telling us you are a stroke survivor or carer, or telling us about access needs, can reveal information about your health. The law gives this extra protection, so we only collect it with your explicit consent, which you give on the registration form.
3. How We Use It
-
to manage registrations and attendance, and share event details with registered members
-
to contact you about changes to a social
-
to arrange support for any access or communication needs
-
to send you news about future socials, only if you have said yes
-
to help improve local stroke support: we may share anonymised, combined observations (for example, “several attendees mentioned difficulty getting transport”). These never include names or anything that could identify you.
We never sell your information or use it for marketing by anyone else.
4. Legal Basis
-
Explicit consent for information about your health or connection to stroke, and for sending updates.
-
Legitimate interests for running events and keeping attendees informed about the socials they registered for.
You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing us. This won’t affect anything we did before you withdrew.
5. Who Can See It
-
Our organisers, only as needed to run the socials.
-
Service providers who store information for us: Google (registration forms and email) and Wix (our website). Their servers may be outside Jersey; they are bound by contract to protect it to the standard required by Jersey law.
-
The venue, only where needed for access or catering (for example, a name for a reserved accessible space).
-
Anyone the law requires us to share with.
6. Photos
We may take photos at socials. We will ask before taking or sharing any photo in which you can be identified, and we will not publish it without your agreement. You can ask us to remove a photo at any time.
7. How Long We Keep It
-
If you said yes to updates, we keep your details until you tell us you no longer want to attend future socials. We will then delete them.
-
If you said no to updates, we delete your details within 30 days after the social you registered for.
-
You can ask us to delete your details at any time.
8. Keeping It Safe
Access is limited to organisers, accounts are protected with strong passwords and two-step verification, and data is deleted securely when no longer needed.
9. Your Rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your information, restrict or object to how we use it, withdraw consent, or receive a copy. Email strokesocial.je@gmail.com and we will reply within four weeks.
